This essay was a year in the making, and almost a decade in the living. It’s a different kind of breast cancer awareness month story, one I wish I’d seen years ago.

In May, while on a rooftop in DC, I noticed The White House from afar and took this photo.

Not as a form of sightseeing.
But instead a form of manifesting.

Fast forward less than

Ever since my cancer metastasized, I’ve had a vision.

I plan to live to be 88 or, as I say, double infinity.

Since an 8 on its side is the infinity symbol.

So yesterday was extra meaningful to me.

Less as a date than as a life goal.

I cried at my oncology appointment today.

The tears came while advocating for myself,
disagreeing with my oncologist about next steps.

Usually, every ~12 weeks I have a checkup for 3 reasons:
1) check my blood counts
2) receive an injection
3) see

It’s my metaversary, and I’m full of gratitude. And LIFE!

Cancer remains my biggest teacher, and as I reflected today, these are some of the biggest lessons - which I hope don’t require a diagnosis to resonate:
